Seattle Reign Battle to 0-0 Draw In First-Ever Meeting With Denver Summit FC

Spokane, WA - The Seattle Reign closed out their three-match homestand at ONE Spokane Stadium with a 0-0 draw against Denver Summit FC. The match saw the Reign debut their “Surge” kit, announced ahead of this 2026 campaign.

The first half was largely under Reign control, but many plays were missing that final connection to score. There were significant opportunities on goal throughout the first 45 minutes that were just unable to find the back of the net. The Summit battled back into the match towards the end of the first half and had some chances of their own, but the Reign were able to keep them contained.

“I think that team is probably one of the most exceptional teams in terms of their ability to score from crossing situations, and I think we did an incredible job of shutting them down when we were inside our own eighteen,” said defender Phoebe McClernon postgame. “So I think that's something that we take a ton of pride in. I also just think that we're like a gritty defensive team. I think we have players all over the field who want to get stuck in, and maybe the next evolution of that is just the decision after we create that turnover."

The roles were slightly reversed in the second half, with Denver gaining more control over possession as the half went on. They had more dangerous chances on goal than the Reign and were not slowed down by a few late Seattle substitutions. The pressure continued to increase as the match went on, but a three-save night from goalkeeper Claudia Dickey helped keep a zero on the board. Dickey’s impressive match helped her pass Hope Solo for most regular-season saves in club history with 190.

"I think momentum always changes in games, and I thought Denver did a good job at handling that at the beginning of the second half,” said defender Madison Curry postgame. “I thought we dug in and didn't concede, which is really important in those times, and we turned the momentum around at the end of the game."

“I don’t think we need to look at this game in its isolation, I think we need to look at all five games and learn from all five games in different ways,” said head coach Laura Harvey postgame. She mentioned many small tactical shifts that she hopes to make for the next match, but mentioned overall that there were some positives to take away from this one.

When asked about the identity she hopes the team has adopted through the first stretch of the season, Harvey said she has seen everything she wants from the players so far.

“We’re hard to beat, we’re creating chances, when things aren’t going our way we don't buckle, and I’ve think we’ve shown ourselves in a way that we know we’re on a journey, and we’re not exactly where we want to be, but you can see where we’re trying to go.”
