First quarter: 5-3

The Cascades looked comfortable in front of their home crowd in the first quarter, with many highlight-reel plays igniting the divisional rivalry between these two teams. After a quick Salt Lake goal, Seattle got on the board with a huge layout grab from handler Marc Munoz from an assist by handler Conor Belfield. A block by cutter Asher Lantz set up a connection between handler Grant Harris and cutter Caleb Campbell, and a block by handler Emmet Shipway the following point resulted in cutter Nick Mahan finding cutter Ethan Murray in the end zone. The Shred got two goals back before perhaps the play that set the tone for the rest of the game: Belfield floated a throw to cutter Jack Brown in the back of the end zone, and Brown rose over his defender to secure the catch before spiking the disc right next to his defender in celebration. Some conflict ensued, and after the play was resolved, the Cascades entered the second quarter with a slim lead after an eventful start.

Second quarter: 10-9

The Cascades carried their momentum into the second quarter with two goals in a row. Campbell secured a quick block and got the disc right back from handler Ian Sweeney for the goal, and Sweeney followed with a block of his own to set up a goal from handler Ben Kass-Mullet through an assist by handler Ricky McLeod. Salt Lake continued to stack points with a set of three goals in a row before two more Cascades goals by McLeod and Martin off assists by handler Mikey O’Brien and Belfield. Seattle’s lead was trimmed down to one entering halftime.

Third quarter: 15-13

Both teams continued trading points in the second half, with one goal by Martin and two each from Raunig and Belfield through three assists from Lofink and one each by Belfield and handler Derek Mourad. A block by cutter Langley Fitzpatrick helped the Cascades continue to retain possession and build their lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Fourth quarter: 20-19

Another close quarter closed out the exciting rivalry matchup. Three goals by Martin and one each from Campbell and Fitzpatrick were assisted by Raunig, Lofink, Brown, Shipway, and Belfield. While it came down to the game’s final minutes to decide a winner, the Cascades exited with an important victory.

Stat of the game:

In their sixth game of the season, the Seattle Cascades recorded a 71% huck percentage, completing 10 out of their 14 deep throw attempts. The Cascades continue to set themselves apart with speed and precision downfield to blow past defenders.
