Seattle Professional Sports Weekend Forecast: June 27th-29th, 2025
By Charles Hamaker
Seattle, WA - To help Seattle sports fans get a glimpse into what’s taking place this weekend, and future weekends ahead, we’ve started a new written series called the “Seattle professional sports weekend forecast” to highlight the games being played, events going on, and anything else related to Seattle’s professional sports teams that are at least on the calendar already and aren’t things that are happening out of the blue. Here are the Seattle professional sports events taking place over the weekend of June 27th through June 29th! Feel free to leave some feedback on this and let us know any events that you may want to see in this going forward!
Friday, June 27th
First round of the NHL Draft: Our Seattle Kraken have already been busy early into the 2025 NHL offseason, as they have made a few trades that have seen them bring in forwards Mason Marchment, Joe Veleno, and Frederick Gaudreau while sending away three total draft picks and forward Andre Burakovsky. That busy offseason will continue when the team participates in the 2025 NHL Draft, now decentralized, with the eighth overall selection in the first round. The draft starts on Friday and will pick back up on Saturday, with rounds two through seven taking place on the 28th. There is no clear selection for the Kraken at this pick, as they have been though of as a team to take a defenseman last year with the same number selection and this year, but Seattle may be lining up to take the best player available. That could be a forward, with names like Jake O’Brien and Roger McQueen viewed as popular options, or if Seattle wants to go with a defenseman as Thunderbirds player Radim Mrtka is an exciting but raw option. You can watch the first round of the NHL Draft, and the selection by the Kraken, on ESPN and ESPN+.
Seattle Orcas vs MI New York: Our Seattle Orcas, a cricket team in the league known as “Major League Cricket” that has only been around for less than a handful of years, are still looking for their first win of the 2025 campaign in what has become a second consecutive disappointing season. The Orcas made their way to the leagues championship match in the inaugural season but ultimately fell and have not been able to come anywhere close since then. Seattle is 0-5 on the year and they have not been able to get a single point this year, the lone team in the six-team league that’s failed to do so. Unless something remarkable takes place, the Orcas are all but eliminated from playoff contention and are just playing for pride at this point. They’ll look to either start an incredible comeback or at minimum get their first win of the season when they battle against MI New York tonight at 5PM pacific time taking place at Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas, Texas. For those wanting to watch locally, this match will be broadcast on FOX 13 Seattle.
Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers: Our Seattle Mariners, coming off a four-game series split with the Minnesota Twins in the second of a three city road trip, look for a bounce back effort after losing their last two games including an ugly contest that finished with a final score of 10-1 yesterday. Not only will the Mariners be looking to bounce back from that ugly, embarrassing defeat, they’ll potentially have an exciting call up as catcher prospect Harry Ford is at minimum joining the ballclub in Arlington on the taxi squad because of Mitch Garver having to leave last night’s game with a ball that caught him in the head and neck area. Ford will be on the taxi squad for now, and if Garver’s imagining comes back as something that will keep him out for some time, Harry will earn a call up. If not, he can head back to Round Rock where the Rainiers continue a road trip against the Express. The pitching matchup for this game will see Mariners right hander Logan Gilbert face off against Rangers right hander Nathan Eovaldi, and will be broadcast live on ROOT Sports Northwest and will be on the radio at Seattle Sports (710 AM).
Seattle Storm vs Connecticut Sun: Our Seattle Storm, the first of two home teams playing in Seattle on this day, will be hosting their annual “Pride Night” game to close out a three-game homestand as the Connecticut Sun come to town. Fans can participate in activations around the concourse that support and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. During the game, an LGBTQ+ leader from the community will be honored and presented with a donation to the nonprofit of their choice to support their ongoing work. The honoree is selected by Storm players and staff for their exemplary community leadership and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community. Be sure to check out the Storm's Pride line, available in the Storm Team Shop in Climate Pledge Arena. When it comes to the game itself, the Sun come into town with just two wins on the season so far, the lowest such total in the WNBA to this point, and the Storm are looking to bounce back from a frustrating loss to the Fever back on Tuesday. Seattle has won six of their last eight games and sit behind the Atlanta Dream for the fourth spot in the league standings, so a bounce back tonight could be big for a Storm team looking to keep climbing. This game will be broadcast live on ION.
Seattle Cascades vs Colorado Summit: The second and last home game of the night in Seattle on this day, our Cascades will play their first game of the year at Interbay Stadium after previously playing their previous home games this year at Memorial Stadium which is now closed as it will begin to undergo major renovations. This game will begin 7PM pacific time and be broadcast live on UFA TV and is the first of consecutive games against the Summit, with that next one taking place in Colorado. The Cascades had a rough start to the season, and they are likely out of hope for a postseason spot this year given that there are just three games left on the year, but they’ll look to close out the year on a high note with this contest.
Saturday, June 28th
Champions of Change Pickleball Tournament 2025: This year, Champions of Change is serving up something new! They’re trading basketball for the fun and inclusive sport of pickleball. With the Celebrity Tournament in Seattle, this is a can’t-miss experience for all ages and skill levels. The event will be taking place at the Redmond Tennis Club, and the guest list is already filled with former Seahawks just as the basketball game has been in the past with names like: Marcus Trufant, Doug Baldwin, Cliff Avril, Michael Bennett, Lofa Tatupu, Lamar Neagle, Martellus Bennett, Bryan Walters, Michael Bumpus, Brad Evans, and Quinton Jefferson all confirmed to participate. This is an event that is free for fans to spectate.
Lenny Wilkens statue unveiling: Just before noon on Saturday, statue honoring legendary basketball player, coach and philanthropist, Lenny Wilkens, will be unveiled just outside of Climate Pledge Arena. The statue, located on the west side of the plaza, shows Wilkens in his playing days. It was created by renowned artist Lou Cella whose previous work includes the statues of Ken Griffey junior and Edgar Martinez at T-Mobile Park. Wilkens, a consummate point guard, developed his game on the courts of Brooklyn before attending Providence College where he was a two time All-American. He was drafted to the NBA in 1960 and traded to the Sonics in 1968 where he began a storied career as a player, player-coach, head coach and executive. He coached the Sonics to the 1979 NBA Championship, Seattle’s first major professional sports title. Wilkens is the first person to be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame three times: as a Player (1989), Coach (1998) and Olympian (2010). In addition to his basketball legacy, Wilkens served in the U.S. Army fulfilling his Reserve Officers’ Training Corps commitment. He and his wife Marilyn established the Lenny Wilkens Foundation which supports health and education programs for young people. It’s unclear what the details will be for the public to view the event, but media (That includes us!) have already been sent information regarding coverage for the event.
Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers: The second contest of this three-game road series against the Texas Rangers sees our Seattle Mariners beginning with an earlier start time of 1:05PM pacific time, as hopefully by this time the Mariners are looking to secure a series win rather than evening the set at a game each with the Rangers. The only known starting pitcher in this game is for Seattle, as Bryan Woo is set to get the nod on the hill for the Mariners as he looks to continue his stretch of going deep into ballgames and make it three games in a row where he’s allowed two or less earned runs in a game. This game will be broadcast live on both ROOT Sports Northwest and FSI and will be on the radio at Seattle Sports (710 AM).
Seattle Sounders FC vs Austin FC: Our Seattle Sounders FC are back to playing MLS regular season matches following their three matches in group stage play of the Club World Cup, where they put up a very formidable effort against some of the toughest clubs on the planet but were unable to record a result. This match pits the Sounders, currently sitting at seventh in the Western Conference, against an Austin side that sits right below them in eighth place of the conference. The Sounders will be hosting their Pride Match on this night, as fans who purchased a ticket through this link will be able to get a ticket to the match and rainbow Pride socks featuring Sounders branding. This match, for those not attending at Lumen Field, has a kickoff time of 7:30PM pacific time and will be broadcast live on APPLE TV - MLS Season pass.
Sunday, June 29th
Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers: This is the third and final game of the three-game road series and finale of the Mariners ten-game road trip, as they’ll begin a homestand the next day. Hopefully by this time the Mariners are wrapping up a series win against the Rangers and looking for a series sweep in Texas, but given the last few games for Seattle that may be farfetched. The only known starter for this game is Luis Castillo for the Mariners, looking to improve from his last outing when he coughed up Seattle’s five run lead in Minnesota. This game will be broadcast live on ROOT Sports Northwest and will be on the radio at Seattle Sports (710 AM).
Seattle Pride Parade: As is normal with the annual Seattle Pride Parade, several of the cities professional sports teams and other levels of teams will be involved in the events surrounding the parade plus the parade itself. Our Seattle Sounders FC and Seattle Reign FC are already confirmed to be participating in the parade, as Sounders FC and Reign FC staff members will be joined by Emerald City Supporters (ECS) and Royal Guard, as well as Sounders FC’s official band Sound Wave and Reign City Riot – the band that performs at each Reign FC match – will be present in this year’s Seattle Pride Parade, a community-led event focused on LGBTQIA2S+ visibility that aligns with the clubs’ impact commitment to advance equity in play and life. Other teams will likely be involved in some capacity, as the Seattle Kraken and Seattle Mariners were there last year, and the home of Circling Seattle Sports will be represented too as Rough & Tumble Pub will have it’s own space in the parade. If you wish to join Rough & Tumble Pub in the pride parade, you can sign up by clicking the link here.
Seattle Storm at Golden State Valkyries: To help close out the weekend, our Seattle Storm will begin a four-game road trip by taking on expansion side Golden State Valkyries for the second time this season, both games coming on the road. The last time these two teams met, the Valkyries took a home victory away as the Storm played one of their more disappointing games of the season as they were dominated in the rebounding department. Golden State has been one of the more interesting stories this season, sitting at sixth place in the league just behind Seattle, and so the Storm can’t exactly take them lightly. Tipoff for this game comes at 5:30PM pacific time and is not on a national broadcast but rather locally on the CW Seattle.
