Seattle, WA - In a hard-fought matchup featuring two of the league’s top teams, with a roaring crowd of over 10,000 fans, the Seattle Reign and San Diego Wave FC battled to a scoreless draw at Lumen Field on Friday night.

San Diego largely controlled the game, with a majority of the possession in their favor, but the Reign held their ground and prevented any scoring opportunities. Each team had chances to develop threats in both halves yet struggled to find viable shots on goal.

“They’re a good team, and limiting them to the chances that they had I think shows a credit to how much we’ve worked on, especially in the last few weeks,” said goalkeeper Claudia Dickey postgame.

Dickey recorded four saves in the match to secure her fifth clean sheet of the 2025 season, which helped her set a new single-season career best. She is also now tied for second-most clean sheets in club history with 11 shutouts in her NWSL career.

I thought it was a good match, I think we prepared well and we executed well. We had a really good first half, picked up the ball in their half quite a bit. We just need to punish as much as we can, but on the flip side, if we keep ourselves in the game with a shutout, that’s exactly what we need to keep doing.
— Lu Barnes, Seattle Reign FC defender and club original, during the post match press conference.

Head coach Laura Harvey added that although it was disappointing to not pick up three points in this game, she is satisfied with the team’s current trajectory.

It’s the joys and the despairs sometimes of having a young group where we don’t often make the same mistakes but it still means we’re learning and developing, and I’m all right with that. We’re on a journey together and this group is very honest, very vulnerable, wants to learn, wants to be better, and I can work with that.
— Laura Harvey, Seattle Reign FC head coach, on the process of turning draws into wins.

Quick Reign notes, from Reign PR

  • With tonight’s result, Reign FC holds a 9-1-3 record against San Diego Wave FC across all NWSL competitions.

  • Reign goalkeeper Claudia Dickey recorded four saves to earn her fifth shutout of 2025, a single-season career high.

    • She now has 11 career clean sheets, tying Haley Kopmeyer, Hope Solo and Lydia Williams for second-most in club history.

What’s next?

Following tonight’s home draw against the San Diego Wave FC, who remain in third place of the NWSL table, our Seattle Reign FC will head back out on the road for a matchup against the Washington Spirit on Sunday, September 7th with a kickoff time of 1PM PDT that will be broadcast live on FOX 13, NWSL+, and Paramount+. Just a week after facing the leagues third seeded team, our Reign will face the second seeded team in the Spirit, who currently have 32 points to their name at this point in the 2025 campaign. Washington has been on quite the run over the last few months, going undefeated since June 15th and having lost just one match in their 13 outings. The previous outing between the two clubs this season saw the Spirit edge out the Reign in a 2-1 result at Lumen Field, as Shae Holmes responded to an 11th minute goal by Croix Bethune with her own score, the first of her NWSL career. Ashley Hatch gave Washington the lead with a score in the 35th minute, and the Spirit locked things down to secure all three points.

Things remain tight atop the NWSL table, as just four points separate the leagues seventh seed (Racing Louisville) and third seed (Wave), with the Reign sitting just three points out of that aforementioned third seed. As this years season winds down, Seattle has the opportunity to push themselves up the table to improve their chances at homefield advantage through the playoffs.
