Seattle Reign Battle To 1-1 Draw At Houston Dash In Record-Setting Night

Seattle, WA - In an important match for the Seattle Reign to regain their composure after two unfortunate results in previous weeks, the club fought back to tie the Houston Dash on the road with a 1-1 score.
Beginning with a generally uneventful, back-and-forth first half, the Reign were unable to create viable scoring chances due to a lack of support up top. Their formation became more spread out, making it harder to connect passes.
Their challenges continued in the second half, as Houston’s goal came right after halftime. In the 47th minute, Dash forward Yazmeen Ryan stole the ball from the Reign back line right in front of the goal after a miscommunication between defender Phoebe McClernon and goalkeeper Claudia Dickey. Ryan intercepted the pass before dribbling past both Dickey and McClernon and finishing into the back of the net.
Although a disappointing way to give up a goal, Seattle was able to get one back with forward Jordyn Huitema’s second goal in two games. Huitema’s head connected with a lofted cross into the box from defender Sofia Huerta for the only Seattle goal of the game. With that assist, Huerta became the new NWSL all-time assist leader with 32 regular season assists, passing teammate Lynn Biyendolo.
“Being able to have the assist record says so much more than just my crosses or my balls into the box…it just kind of means that I’ve been in the league for a long time and I’ve been a consistent enough player to be on the field and so overall, that’s something that I’m extremely proud of.”
A clean end to the match earned Seattle one point on the road as they learned from previous mistakes to come back and hold Houston to one goal.

What’s next?
Following this afternoons road draw against the Houston Dash in the Texas heat, our Seattle Reign FC will return home to the Pacific Northwest for their next match as the regular season hits the homestretch. The next Reign match comes on Friday, August 29th with a kickoff time of 7:30PM PDT at Lumen Field as Seattle plays host to the San Diego Wave FC. This match between the two west coast clubs will air on FOX 13 locally, while on NWSL+ and Paramount+ nationally. Seattle has shown better form over their last five matches than San Diego, with the Reign winning two and gaining points in that span while the Wave have just one win and three draws in that same stretch. Seattle leads the head-to-head record against San Diego at nine wins, one less, and two draws. This match presents another opportunity for the Reign to climb up the NWSL table, as three points separate Seattle at sixth and San Diego at third.
