Oilers Crude Awakening: Kraken Extend Home Win Streak With 3-2 Victory
By Miracle Lucketti, edited by Charles Hamaker
Seattle, WA - Our Seattle Kraken are officially feeling themselves - and rightfully so. With their 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, the Kraken have achieved the franchise’s best start to a season: a 5-2-2 record. Notably, in the last two games, the Kraken have defeated both last season's Presidents’ Trophy winner, the Winnipeg Jets, and the Stanley Cup runner-up, the Oilers.
Despite a laundry list of injuries, Seattle continues to pull together and outwork teams that should have no problem against a team not at its full potential. Coach Lane Lambert seems to have found a coaching style that works for the team; their third straight win on home ice proves as much.

Captain Jordan Eberle opened up the scoring just a minute and twenty-three seconds into the game, beating Edmonton goalie Stuart Skinner with help from Matty Beniers and Berkley Catton. It was Eberle’s third of the season, and Climate Pledge Arena erupted.

Despite several good looks, the Kraken could not convert on either power play. Though we saw some improvement, Seattle’s power play units struggled to connect on passes. This allowed Edmonton to steal the puck right off Kraken tape. Thankfully, Kraken goaltender Joey Daccord was on his game and able to be that much-needed last line of defense. The coaching staff has said the power play is an area of focus, and while it’s clear work has been done, there is still room for improvement.
Forward Tye Kartye’s off-season work paid off just six minutes and thirty-five seconds into the second period. Racing up ice with Ryan Winterton, Kartye was ready when Winterton sliced a cross-ice pass his way. Kartye buried the puck behind Skinner in the Oilers’ net, putting Seattle up 2-0. After sending the puck into the net, Kartye sent himself into Winterton’s embrace to celebrate as the building erupted once more.
“Over the last few games here, I think that fourth line’s been like a dog on a bone. They’re hounding and they’re creating, they’re getting in, they’re creating forecheck, they’re getting bumps, and they’re going to the net. It was really, really nice to see them get rewarded with with that goal tonight.”
The Big Cat, Adam Larsson, took a late tripping penalty in the second. As a result, Edmonton’s Bouchard delivered one of his infamous Bouch Bombs, putting the Oilers on the board with four minutes and thirty-nine seconds left. It was the only power play goal in the game from either team.
Eberle added to his season goal tally, making it four, for those keeping track, with just seven-thirty-nine left to play in the third. Beniers assisted on this goal as well.
Daccord’s game continued to be on point. The goaltender locked in to save 31 of 33 shots faced. He saw 14 shots in the third period alone, giving up only one goal near the end. Nurse tapped in a shot from Ekholm with five minutes and twenty-five seconds left.
With Edmonton’s net empty and the extra attacker on, the Kraken defended their net well. Vince Dunn made a beautiful shot block in the dying seconds. This secured the win and sent Daccord rushing from the net as the horn blared to show the D-man his appreciation.
The Kraken defeated the Oilers 3-2. Eberle, Daccord, and Kartye were awarded the three stars, respectively.
“Both of them were fantastic. I mean, Joey was great. He was great right from the very, very start of the game, obviously, and we needed him to be. Ebs too, two great goals, certainly contributions from everyone on the team, though. It was a complete team effort at some point or another, everybody contributed to this hockey game.”
Quick Kraken notes, from Kraken PR
Tonight's game kicked off a five-game homestand for the Kraken that will see them also face Montreal, New York (Rangers), Chicago, and San Jose.
After tonight's victory, Seattle is undefeated at home to start the season and improved its record against Edmonton to 3-6-0 in Seattle and 4-11-1 overall vs. the Oilers.
The Kraken and Oilers will face each other on three more occasions: Nov. 29 in Seattle and Dec. 4 and March 31, 2025 in Edmonton.
The Kraken's 5-2-2 record and 12 points in nine games continues to be the team's strongest start in franchise history. Seattle is tied with Vegas for first in the Pacific division entering play Sunday.
With two goals tonight, Jordan Eberle shares the lead in points (8) and goals (4) among all Kraken skaters. His first goal of the night was his 70th career goal with Seattle, which is the third different team he has scored as many with (also Edmonton and New York Islanders).
Eberle is the only active player to score 70 goals with three different franchises, according to NHL Stats.
Matty Beniers added the primary assist on both of Jordan Eberle's goals tonight, registering his second multi-point game of the season. He also won 71.4% of his faceoffs (10-of-14), which is the fourth-highest percentage in a game where he's faced 14 or more faceoffs.
With a win tonight, Joey Daccord improved to 5-1-1 with a 2.48 goals-against average and .915 save percentage in seven games this season.
Coach Lambert has given the team Sunday off as they prepare to face the Montréal Canadians on Tuesday. The Kraken fell to the Canadians in overtime on October 14th and will try to use their newfound winning momentum to turn the tide for this next meeting. After Montréal, Seattle hosts the Rangers on November 1st for the teams’ debut in the new third jerseys.
