Made To Menace: Kraken Unveil Third Jersey Ahead Of 2025-26 Season
By Jayd Serdy, edited by Charles Hamaker
Seattle, WA - After one month of teaser videos from our Seattle Kraken, the Pacific Northwest’s NHL team unveiled a brand new, all black look on Thursday morning. The teams first ever third jersey features glow-in-the-dark elements that lean into the bioluminescence that appears in the Pacific Northwest, stripes on the sleeves to replicate sonar pings, a tonal black stitched crest outlined with a glow-in-the-dark blue piping, and a glow-in-the-dark Muckleshoot Tribe logo. Along with these glowing aspects, the numbers, shoulder details, and names will also be glow-in-the-dark. To bring the whole look together on ice, the players will wear a matte black helmet with a glow-in-the-dark Amazon logo, black gloves, shorts, and socks. These jerseys will be worn 12 times in total this upcoming season, the fifth year of the franchises existence.
“When we set out to design a third jersey, we wanted to create something a bit more menacing and intense. We drew our inspiration from the eerie shadows of the deep Pacific Northwest waters. The result is the franchise’s first all-black kit that includes an Ice Blue, glow-in-the-dark outline on the crest – a nod to the incredible bioluminescence found in these waters. We’re extremely proud of how it turned out, and we can’t wait to see our players and fans in this new look.”

A key aspect of this jersey is to make this jersey something that can keep the fans engaged and have them play a role in the show on a game day at Climate Pledge Arena. Different aspects of the jersey represent that in different ways, from the obvious glow in the dark parts of the look in addition to the inner collar’s pattern that doubles as the coordinates of CPA. When they become available, whether that’s through the season ticket holder presale, general public presale, or when it actually physically hits the shelves, fans will be able to play into the theatrics of the night with their own jerseys and gear. Part of the press release itself mentions fans being able to “play their part in the game presentation.” Each game at home that the Kraken wear these jerseys will be a unique experience, as fans are told to “expect the unexpected” with a special in-arena show.
In addition to the home navy jerseys and white away jerseys that this third look will join in the active rotation, this pushes the Kraken’s all-time jersey total (of the ones they wore in the game itself, of course) to five. Seattle got the feel of a third jerseys when they wore their predominantly ice blue “Reverse Retro” jerseys in the 2022-23 season, part of a now-defunct partnership with Adidas that gave each team around the NHL a new look. Perhaps the most beloved look would be the Kraken’s “Winter Classic” jerseys from their game at T-Mobile Park in early 2024, unveiling a striped homage to the Seattle Metropolitans, a team in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association franchise that played from 1915 to 1924. Part of the love for the “Winter Classic” jerseys came from the game they were first used in, as Seattle manhandled Las Vegas on the national stage, so it’ll be interesting to see how the teams on-ice performance when wearing the jerseys plays into their popularity. Reviews were mixed for the “Reverse Retro” jerseys, but some of the animosity for them surely came from the Kraken going winless in them.
“This is an exciting new look for our team, and the jersey is phenomenal. The glow-in-the-dark element is really unique, and it’s such an eye-catching look. I love the inspiration behind it and all the details that went into the design. We hope it will add to the incredible atmosphere at Climate Pledge Arena.”

Staff thoughts on the new look
Jayd: While I was hoping the secondary logo would be incorporated into the alternate jersey, or a red-alert concept, I’m a sucker for a black jersey and glow-in-the-dark anything. The jersey will also be used in the game presentation on the featured nights, further enhancing the fan experience in-game, which is a nice touch. I love the concept of replicating sonar pings on the jersey as a kind of reference to ‘The Deep,’ though it does make the jersey feel a bit busy down the sleeves, especially with the bold red stripe towards the bottom. Ultimately, I’m looking forward to seeing these jerseys on the ice and what the Game Operations team does to incorporate the jersey into the game presentation.
Miracle: While I do wish they’d gone with the darker of the light blues instead the ice blue for the accent color, I think these will look killer on the ice. The entire team rolling out for pregame, glowing, is going to make for some amazing photos and in-person experiences. Pairing them with matte black helmets and the all black kit underneath will compliment it perfectly, in my opinion. The Kraken organization always gets their attention to detail right, and using the sonar pings as a sleeve addition is just another way in which they showcase that. My one and only ask was a red glowing eye, and I while didn’t get that, I’m still pretty stoked with the inclusion of the black and red and can’t wait to see them in action under the arena lights.
Charles: It’s fun for the Kraken to have this third look, and we really haven’t seen a Seattle professional sports team with a black jersey outside of the Seattle Storm’s “rebel” jerseys the last few years and the Seattle Seawolves having a black look at times. Getting the fans even more engaged at Climate Pledge Arena is a solid idea, even though the in arena operations folks have already done a great job at presentation and creating a show out of what you see on a game day. The glowing aspects of the jersey will be fun to see on the ice and I’m sure our CSS photography team will do a great job of capturing the looks here. The Kraken certainly did a better job with this jersey than the Seahawks did with their “Rivalries” look, but I’m not particularly over the moon with these. Like many, I’ll have to see what they’re like in person and in action, but at the end of the day these are solid. Let’s just hope that the Kraken have a better record in these than their Reverse Retro jerseys from year two.
