Seattle Torrent Practice Notebook: February 12th, 2026

By Charles Hamaker

Northgate, WA - For their fifth practice date since the Olympic break began, the Seattle Torrent were on the ice at the Kraken Community Iceplex for two split sessions. Both taking place on rink one (Starbucks rink), the Torrent rolled their forwards out with goaltenders Corinne Schroeder and Hannah Murphy for the first hour, before the defenders and goaltender Carly Jackson took the next hour. This practice saw the return of a forward who had been out with a day-to-day designation, a forward with their nickname on their practice jersey, and some fan appreciation for goaltender Carly Jackson. Here’s what we saw from Torrent practice on Thursday, February 12th, 2026.

First session notes

The first of two sessions for this Torrent practice saw the forwards who did not attend the Olympics working with goaltenders Corinne Schroeder and Hannah Murphy. As is standard with hockey practices, the goaltenders were out on the ice first to get some early work in with their position coach, Sheldon Goertzen. Those two did a lot of work with screens, as Schroeder and Murphy alternated between being the lone screener in front of the other, with Murphy showing off perfect statuesque form when it was her turn to screen Schroeder.

Once the forwards hit the ice to join those two netminders, the Torrent seemed to be working on small-area drills and wall battle drills primarily. One wall battle drill involved two forwards battling for a puck along the wall; the first to get it then had to pass to another forward in the slot, who took a shot on goal. In the small-area games, the goal was set in one corner of the rink, where two forwards battled for the puck, trying to get a shot on goal. They could either shoot the puck on goal while dealing with another forward in front of them, or pass to a third forward in the drill positioned at the net front. Given the Torrent front office and coaching staff preaching speed and physicality since day one of the season, it isn’t surprising to see Seattle working on these sorts of things during this break in the schedule.

After previously being listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury, forward Lexie Adzija was back out on the ice with the rest of her teammates for session one on rink one (Starbucks). The veteran forward is a tenacious player for the Torrent, doing much of the “dirty work” for Seattle, including big minutes on the penalty kill and never shying away from laying hits. Given the effort and energy that Adzija expends in her role with the Torrent, it’s not surprising that she may pick up a knock here and there, and this may be the result of that. Thankfully, it was just a day-to-day situation for Lexie, as she was back out in full force for Seattle during this practice with the rest of the forward group.

Another observation from the session with the forwards is that veteran Mikyla Grant-Mentis now has her nickname, “Buckey,” on her practice jersey. It may be a small note to some, but Grant-Mentis has noted a few times that she’d prefer to be referred to by her nickname of “Buckey,” so it’s nice to see that represented on her practice jersey the last few days of practice during this break.

Second session notes

While not listed as a split session to the media, the arrival of the Zamboni and goaltender Carly Jackson signaled that the reason a large chunk of the team was missing from that first session was the fact that it was split. The defenders and Jackson took the ice for the second hour of this practice time on rink one (Starbucks rink), but were without reserve defender Emily Zumwinkle. The other two players on reserve contracts for Seattle, forwards Sydney Langseth and Jada Habisch, were present during the first session. Zumwinkle was the lone player for the Torrent, who isn’t currently away in Milano Cortina, not present at this practice.

During their practice session, it seemed like the Seattle defenders were working on shots from the point. With only one defender recording a goal for the Torrent before the break, coming from Megan Carter on a breakaway against Toronto, it isn’t surprising that Seattle wants to work more on the production from their blueline.

What’s next?

Following today’s practice at the Kraken Community Iceplex, the Seattle Torrent will have a practice tomorrow here, but it’s closed to the media, so we won’t be able to provide any information on what takes place. After that Friday practice, the Torrent will have the weekend days of Saturday and Sunday off, as will be the protocol over this current Olympic break.
