Seattle, WA - Our Seattle Tempest remain undefeated in 2025 as they defeated the Utah Wild in a high-scoring, home matchup. Utah started the game out with a few quick goals, but both the Tempest offense and defense were able to answer with accurate throwing to space and numerous emphatic blocks. Impact players in this game include handler Hana Kawai with two assists and three goals, cutter Lexi Garrity with four goals, and handler Sadie Jezierski with three assists, one block and the Discraft Play of the Game.

First period: 5-3

The visiting Utah Wild opened the game’s scoring with two quick points after a clean offensive hold and a Tempest turnover the following point. Utah utilized their fast offensive movement by beating Tempest defenders to the deep space and taking shots downfield during the team’s transition offense. Seattle was able to respond early, with their first point coming off of a beautiful inside look from veteran handler Charlie Eide to handler Hana Kawai for the goal. Cutter Jammie Eriksson was also instrumental in securing the first goal by working the disc up the field in the cutter space.

In the following point, the Wild began poaching in the deep space to leave the far-side cutter open, while providing more defensive support when Tempest looked to hit their cutters streaking deep. Handler Sadie Jezierski noticed this shift, but trusted Lauren Page to find the disc, as Jezierski hit Page in the end zone over multiple defenders for the Tempest goal.

Utah continued utilizing its quick offense to beat the Tempest defenders and hit their deep looks.

Tempest responded again with great upline connections to tie the game back up. Kawai exhibited great patience on the end zone line and in the handler space to step around her mark and connect with handler Nada Tramonte, who hit cutter Lexi Garrity for the goal.

The next point included seven combined turnovers as each team traded deep looks that weren’t able to find connections. Tempest came away with the goal after a huge catch by cutter Joline Chang off a floating throw by Jezierski, with Chang hitting rookie cutter Ciona Antolin streaking deep for the goal. Antolin had impressive field awareness to continue moving with the play and losing her defender to be an option in the end zone after Chang’s grab.

Tempest scored another goal to end the quarter with an impressive defensive block by Eriksson, followed by a huge layout catch by her right after. Seattle continued stringing passes together with handler Julia Hasbrook able to connect with hybrid player Anna Cauchy for a break side goal off of the Tempest end zone set.

Second period: 12-7

Tempest continued their offensive momentum to begin the second period strong. Cutter Alexa Kirkland floated a beautiful outside-in forehand to Kawai in the corner of the end zone for the goal. Tempest cutters looked significantly more in-sync, as they were able to produce cutting space in the middle of the field while still allowing the handlers to work it in.

Utah responded quickly by once again beating Tempest defenders to the deep space, but Seattle again had an answer. Garrity secured a grab over multiple defenders and placed a hanging forehand to cutter Drea Baroma for an emphatic score.

The next point led to a massive block by Antolin after a Utah miscommunication, and another great offensive flow off of a turnover found Hasbrook hitting wide open cutter Penny Nguyen for the score. As Tempest commentator Anthony Ziegler said on the broadcast, “it’s not a Penny, it’s a dime!”

Utah responded with another quick goal off a Tempest turnover, and Tempest followed with another assist from Kawai to handler Cat Chung after another solid deep look into the end zone.

Utah followed with another score but the Tempest offensive line appeared to be flowing a lot better. Kirkland connected with Chung for her second goal of the game and another easy score with great patience on the end zone line.

The next point included massive blocks by both Page and Jezierski to regain possession, but a panicked offensive set led to a timeout call. After collecting themselves and setting up after the timeout, Tramonte easily threw to Baroma for the Tempest goal. The Tempest block party continued, as a big hand block by Eriksson and massive food block by cutter Anna Pettee led to a goal from cutter Brogan Jones with an assist from Erikkson. Utah scored to end the first half, but Tempest had an eventful period to work off of starting the next period.

Third period: 16-10

Tempest opened the second half with a classic Jezierski cross-field floater which found Hasbrook for the goal. Utah responded with a quick goal, and multiple turnovers followed in the next point before Kawai came down with the frisbee through a crowded group of defenders to connect with Garrity for her second goal of the game. The Wild responded again, and started to look even more comfortable in their offensive connections, but Tempest had an answer as Baroma snuck it into Garrity in the end zone for her third goal of the game and second in a row.

The next point was the most exciting of the game, as handler Joline Chang’s massive hand block led to an even crazier cross-body layout catch by Jezierski, which was voted the Discraft Play of the game. In true Jezeriski fashion, she stood up immediately and beautifully floated in a pass to Page in the end zone for the goal. This point was followed by another insane two-handed block by Pettee, with Utah eventually scoring after a few unfortunate Tempest turnovers to end the period.

Fourth period: 19-14

Utah went on a scoring run to begin the fourth period and inched closer to the Tempest lead. They scored two in a row off of Tempest turnovers before Tramonte came down with a huge catch and connected with [cutter] Jessica Crowley who found Eide for the goal.

Utah scored two in a row again, with their second point coming off the coveted Callahan, a play in ultimate frisbee where a defender intercepts a pass in the opponent's end zone, which results in an immediate goal.

Although the momentum had shifted completely in favor of the Wild, Seattle was able to respond with a huge deep look from Crowly to Antolin. After a timeout call, handler Lani Nguyen found Kawai in the endzone to conclude the game.

Throughout this matchup, each team had a series of scoring runs, but Tempest was able to respond more efficiently in the end. Their offense is continuing to mesh together, but this game was won by the Tempest defense stepping up in big moments to force turnovers.

Stat of the game:

In the third game of the season, Seattle Tempest recorded 12 total blocks, with almost all of them coming in high-impact moments. Seattle was able to use its defensive awareness to stop the Utah attack and capitalize on quick transition moments to score.

What’s next?

The Seattle Tempest will head into a bye week before preparing to face the San Diego Superbloom in an away game on April 26th. Superbloom are coming off a bye week still undefeated, and will have a game this weekend against the Arizona Sidewinders.
