Reign, with West division already clinched, battle to scoreless draw against Thorns
Things were a bit different in today’s rivalry match between the OL Reign and Portland Thorns, as neither team had much on the line to play for as the Reign had already locked up the West Division and the Thorns had virtually no chance of advancing in the tournament.
Balcer’s penalty pushes Reign to win over Wave, clinching Challenge Cup’s West Division
The OL Reign clinched the West division of the 2023 UKG Challenge Cup behind another clean sheet and Bethany Balcer’s penalty goal in the 71st minute. Without their 8 international players currently at the World Cup, the Reign grinded out a tight victory to earn themselves an automatic bid to the semifinals of this years Challenge Cup.
