Seattle, WA - Our Seattle Storm have waived rookie guards Madison Conner and Jordan Hobbs, the team announced Tuesday morning. Conner and Hobbs played a combined 13 minutes in Seattle’s lone public preseason win over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday, May 4th as they won’t get a chance to join the team for their closed scrimmage against the Los Angeles Sparks on May 10th.

The Storm currently have 13 players on the active roster, which means that a few more cuts will be made before rosters are finalized.

Conner tallied three rebounds in eight minutes in that preseason outing against the Sun a few days ago. Selected with the 29th overall pick, the former Arizona Wildcat was a major factor in TCU claiming its first Sweet 16 appearance in school history, averaging 12.9 points and shooting 46.5 percent from deep through the Big 12 conference tournament and March Madness.

Hobbs saw five minutes of action and grabbed three rebounds and recorded steal in Seattle’s exhibition contest. Drafted with the 34th overall pick, Hobbs played all four years of her collegiate career at Michigan with the Wolverines. As a role player her first several years, Hobbs blossomed as a senior, averaging 13.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. Hobbs was instrumental for the Wolverines, helping usher in the new era of Michigan basketball featuring Syla Swords, Olivia Olson, and Mia Holloway. Her strong play in her senior season helped inspire her to continue pursuing her dream of basketball, as she revealed on media day that she had an engineering job with General Electric lined up before calling to let them know she wanted to continue her hoop dreams.

Making a roster as a rookie in the WNBA is one hardest tasks in professional sports. In 2024, 36 players were drafted, but only 13 made rosters. The 2025 draft saw 38 players enter the league, but with cuts currently underway, that number will dwindle drastically within the next ten days. For this Storm team, making the opening day roster out of camp has been a difficult task as the franchise has consistently been a contender, often relying on veterans as opposed to being patient with rookies. With three rookies still on the training camp roster, it’ll be interesting to see how much that number shrinks by the time that Seattle gets to opening night.
