Keys to a Storm Win Over the Mystics - May 27th, 2026
By Jess Amato
Seattle, WA - Our Seattle Storm are getting ready to host the Washington Mystics for the second of two matchups in a row. This game also marks the Storm’s last game of a four-game homestand before they embark on their next road trip. Seattle has two home wins in a row, and they’re looking to see if they can make it three. Here are three keys to a third consecutive win for the Storm when they host the Washington Mystics on Wednesday, May 27th, 2026.
Continue offensive momentum
This feels self-explanatory, yet not at the same time. The Storm’s offense exploded in the third quarter against the Mystics on Sunday. By the end of the first quarter, the Storm had 26 points to the Mystics’ 24. By the half, the Storm were up 49 to 37, almost doubling their points total from the first ten minutes.
After the third quarter, the Storm were up to 76 points with the Mystics recording 54 points. Seattle held the Mystics off for their smallest points total in a quarter, only 17, and recorded 26 of their own. The Mystics then exploded on the court in the fourth quarter, but the Storm managed to keep their lead and defeated the Mystics 97-85.
As long as the Storm maintain a lead and keep pace, they’ll do just fine in taking down Washington for the second game in a row. Seattle certainly has some players capable of strong scoring games, but the ultimate key to a successful season will be finding consistency with those players and as a whole.
Get another strong game from Stef Dolson
Against the Mystics on Sunday, Stef Dolson’s shooting percentage was a perfect 100%. She scored on her three attempts in the paint, her two attempted three-pointers, and made all eight of her free throws. Dolson put up a perfect 16 points on her shooting percentage.
Dolson was an offseason addition to this Seattle team, and the Storm marks her fourth team in her 12 years of WNBA experience. These 16 points she put up ties her previous record set with Seattle in their second road game of the season against the Toronto Tempo. However, this was the first game of the season where she had a perfect shooting percentage.
“Stef’s been huge, like you said, she was perfect from the field, we should have got her more shots, even. Her leadership, her court sense, just knowing where to be, I think that’s just a really big benefit to all of her teammates, and just her ability to space the floor as well is really, just as a versatile big, is really useful for us in terms of our offensive spacing.”
If Dolson can keep this up against the Mystics again tonight in Seattle, the Storm will be in great shape.
Give the Rookies Minutes
There is no denying that the starters have been great, and Flau’jae Johnson has even been part of the starting lineup. She deserves her minutes and is consistently a playmaker on the court. Now that Awa Fam is with the Storm as well, she deserves her minutes, too. Considering how strong she looked early on in her Storm tenure, it wouldn’t be shocking to see her continue to get strong minutes early in her career.
Fam played 20 minutes and recorded 10 points. After just landing in the United States and already playing basketball with a brand new team, these are impressive stats. It proves Fam is a true hooper and will be an even greater addition to the Storm team as she builds chemistry with the players both on and off the court.
“I think we’re taking it day to day. Our medical staff, our performance team, is working really closely with our coaching staff to make sure that we’re monitoring how she’s responding each day, how her body’s recovering. But she’s doing really well so far. She had Monday fully off, so she was able to kind of recuperate a little bit from the travel and jump right into practice, a game, and then, like you said, we were able to integrate her into a full practice with her teammates. A lot of live portions, I think that was really helpful to her teammates, and just being able to continue to integrate her, continue to bring her along, but I think the key thing is to keep it simple early. There are so many things that you want to do with the talent she has, but you know, one day at a time,”
Johnson has also been fantastic. She recorded 17 points in 24 minutes, tying her career high points total already. She has been a great addition to the Storm this season, and it’ll be exciting to see how she grows as a player as the season progresses.
