PWHL Seattle To Host Development Program At KCI

Northgate, WA - PWHL Seattle will host its first-ever Summer Development Program on August 16th-17th at the Kraken Community Iceplex. Teaming up with the Kraken Youth Hockey Association, the two-day camp invites players of all skill levels to train directly with PWHL Seattle players and coaches. The program splits into three age groups - 8U/10U, 12U/14U, and Adult (18+) - and focuses on high-energy drills, skill-building, and on-ice fun.

Players will skate, compete, and learn in a fast-paced, supportive environment. The coaching staff will lead sessions designed to help athletes grow their confidence, sharpen their skills, and connect with others in the local hockey community. Whether players want to level up or just enjoy a weekend of hockey, the program offers a chance to experience the game with guidance from pros.

This development program lands at a key moment for Seattle. The city’s PWHL team is preparing for its first season in 2025-26, and interest in women’s hockey continues to grow. Earlier this year, more than 12,000 fans packed Climate Pledge Arena for a PWHL showcase game in the leagues “PWHL Takeover Tour” as the Boston Fleet defeated the Montréal Victoire in the shootout.

Since the Seattle Kraken hit the ice in 2021, youth hockey in the Seattle area has surged. Local programs have seen more girls join the game, more families show up to rinks, and more energy around hockey at all levels. PWHL Seattle has leaned into that momentum. By running camps like this, the team shows it wants to build more than just a fanbase, it wants to help grow the sport from the ground up.

The new PWHL franchise will play at Climate Pledge Arena and practice at the Iceplex. General manager Meghan Turner and head coach Steve O’Rourke lead the organization as it builds its roster and prepares for its first puck drop. In the meantime, the Summer Development Program gives local players a chance to get involved early and be part of what’s coming.

Players can sign up now through the Kraken Community Iceplex website. Whether you’re picking up a stick for the first time or getting ready for your next season, the camp offers a chance to feel what it’s like to be part of the PWHL.
