Mariners Catcher Cal Raleigh Day-To-Day With “General Soreness”
By Charles Hamaker
Seattle, WA - Little was known about the injury that pulled Seattle Mariners star catcher Cal Raleigh from the lineup, a little over an hour out from first pitch, and not much clarity was provided by manager Dan Wilson postgame. A vague update was given on Seattle’s backstop, with words such as “General soreness” and “day-to-day” being the only information of note regarding one of the Mariners star players.

Raleigh was dealing with a “little soreness” today, per Wilson, so Seattle decided to pull him from the lineup, and he will “get a little imaging” done before the team can reassess his situation tomorrow.
Wilson clarified that it was not Cal’s glove hand, which took a beating during the team’s road series against the Minnesota Twins before this homestand began, and used the term “general soreness.” Being held out of the lineup today and the imaging that Raleigh will receive are measures the Mariners are taking to be as “cautious as possible.”
When asked about his level of concern regarding Raleigh’s status, Wilson glossed over the question by labeling Cal as “day-to-day” and stating that the team will have a better idea once more information becomes available, likely once the imaging results are in.
The situation in its entirety is frustrating for the Mariners and their fanbase, considering the back-to-back ugly losses they’ve suffered to open this homestand against a Kansas City Royals team that’s struggled coming into this series. Take into consideration the strong road trip that Seattle had, paired with this mysterious injury to one of their best players, and there’s plenty of reason for the fanbase to be upset with the current situation.
Here’s hoping there is clear and direct information made available before tomorrow’s game, the series finale against the Royals, a 1:10 PM PDT first pitch time at T-Mobile Park.
