Mariners Start Times For ALDS Games One & Two Revealed
By Charles Hamaker
Seattle, WA - After plenty of questions were raised regarding the potential start times for the two opening games of the American League Division Series games that our Seattle Mariners will be hosting, we’ve got a better idea of when first pitch will take place as Major League Baseball made an announcement this morning. The Mariners will host games one, two, and a fifth game in the series if necessary at T-Mobile Park.
Game two, taking place on Sunday, October 5th, has a locked and set start time of 5:03PM PDT. This means that the Seahawks, who are hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers across the street at Lumen Field, will not have to adjust their kickoff time of 1:05PM PDT after that came into question earlier in the week. If the Mariners were scheduled to play within the same hour, Seattle officials said that the Seahawks could have moved their kickoff back anywhere from 90 to 150 minutes. This game two will be broadcast live on FS1.
Game one is where things can get sticky, as there are two potential start times: 1:08PM PDT or 5:38PM PDT. If the Boston Red Sox, who have a lead in their Wild Card series against the New York Yankees after their win last night, do end up advancing to take on the AL East champion Toronto Blue Jays, game one will take place at the 1:08PM PDT (Broadcast live on FOX) listed start time which is much more convenient in terms of flow of traffic that day in SoDo considering that the Sounders host their rivals the Portland Timbers at Lumen Field with a start time of 7:30PM PDT. If the Yankees end up mounting a comeback and winning the Wild Card series in three games, then the listed start time for game one would be the 5:38PM PDT (Broadcast live on FS1) window that still isn’t directly conflicting with the Sounders match but runs closer and creates more of a mess traffic wise.
The Mariners will face the winner of the Wild Card series between the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers, as Detroit took game one yesterday behind a strong outing from Cy Young candidate Tarik Skubal.
What’s next?
The Mariners will host the first of two scrimmages at T-Mobile Park in preparation for the ALDS today, with “first pitch” taking place at 2PM PDT. Tomorrow’s scrimmage will have a start time of 5PM PDT. Today’s gates open at 1PM PDT for fans attending, and tomorrow’s gates open at 4PM PDT for fans attending. Seattle plans to treat these intrasquad games like they are an actual contest in terms of their daily preparation for what a regular season game looks like, meaning there will be on-field work, batting practice, and pitchers going through their throwing routines. The lower bowl has been opened to fans, as a $10 general admission ticket gets you into the ballpark and a portion of the cost will go to the Mariners Care Foundation. Concession stands and team store stands are expected to be open, where fans can get their postseason apparel if they don’t already have it.
