Kraken Place Forward Jared McCann on Injured Reserve With Lower Body Injury
By Charles Hamaker
Seattle, WA - The injury woes continue for the Seattle Kraken as they return home from a difficult six-game Canada/East coast road trip, as forward Jared McCann was placed on injured reserve this morning. The move comes for the Kraken ahead of their contest against the Edmonton Oilers, as Seattle was looking to get healthier with Mason Marchment returning last game in the win over Winnipeg after being day-to-day. The injury to McCann opened the door for star Kraken prospect Berkly Catton to make his debut on Monday against the Philadelphia Flyers, and the 2024 first round pick has looked solid handling the competition at the NHL level through three games so far.
McCann last suited up for Seattle back on October 18th when the Kraken beat the Toronto Maple Leafs in overtime by a score of 4-3 in the third game of the road trip. With him not playing since that midway point of the trip, McCann meets the seven-day absence threshold today and is going to be eligible to return at any time starting tomorrow. This roster move from the Kraken allows for them to keep forwards Ben Meyers and John Hayden on the active NHL roster, currently at the league limit, as Brandon Montour rejoins the team and is expected to address the media regarding his absence after the teams morning skate today. McCann is “day-to-day according to Lambert at todays morning skate.
“He’s come in and looked pretty comfortable considering he wasn’t in a lot of camp. Jared has elite talent and an ability to score goals, our hockey team needs him to score goals and he’s doing just that... 400 points, he’s doing it in a lot of different ways, the net presence on the last goal is key.”
Prior to the injury, McCann had looked strong in his five games on the year with three goals and one assist on the season while averaging 17:17 of time on ice. In the offseason, McCann underwent a procedure on an unknown part of his body, something he said that he’d have to do at exit interviews following last season but did not specify on what the surgery was going to address. The recovery necessary for that procedure kept him off the ice for the majority of the summer. In an instance of tough luck, Jared picked up a knock before preseason games began which kept him out for the majority of sessions for Seattle prior to the season opener.
