Seattle Cascades Defeat Oregon Steel 23-18

The Seattle Cascades won their third out of four 2026 matchups against the Oregon Steel with a final score of 23-18. What started as an evenly-matched game ended with a second half lead that the Cascades were able to ride to the end. Impact players in this game include hybrid player Garrett Martin with five goals and 376 receiving yards, handler Mikey O’Brien with four assists, and cutter Austin Hasbrook with two assists and two blocks.

First quarter: 6-6
A high-scoring first quarter showcased the ever-present Northwest rivalry between the two teams, and only five turnovers total highlighted both the Steel and Cascades’ efficient offensive points. Goals from handler Emmet Shipway, handler Grant Harris, hybrid player Garrett Martin, cutter Ricky McLeod, and cutter Nolan Stoppel were assisted by handler Mikey O’Brien, handler Spencer Lofink, handler Ian Sweeney, cutter Gavin Leahy, and Martin after an evenly-matched start to the game.
Second quarter: 13-11
After an early goal by the Steel to begin the second quarter, the Cascades responded with a very efficient four-pass possession ending on a huge grab by cutter Ethan Murray over his defender in the endzone. Another Oregon goal was followed by a three-goal scoring run from the Cascades. Martin, Leahy, and cutter Austin Hasbrook were assisted by Lofink, McLeod,and handler Ben Kass-Mullet, with key blocks by Sweeney, Hasbrook, and McLeod. The quarter’s remaining goals were scored by Martin, Leahy, and handler Tommy Li with assists by Kass-Mullet, O’Brien, and Lofink, and Seattle entered halftime with a slim lead over the Steel.
Third quarter: 18-13
The third quarter was all Cascades, with five goals compared to Oregon's two. Two goals each by Lofink and cutter Nick Mahan and one from handler Chris Roach were scored through assists by Li, Hasbrook, O’Brien, and handler Spencer Land with blocks from Sweeney and cutter Jack Brown to retain possession. The Cascades entered the fourth quarter with a stronger lead after stacking quality points together.
Fourth quarter: 23-18
The Cascades maintained their five-goal lead to power themselves to an 8-3 season record with one game left. Goals by Kass-Mullet, Leahy, Martin, and handler Louie Bertoncin, were assisted by Li, Lofink, McLeod, Hasbrook, and Martin to end the game strong.
Stat of the game:
In their 11th game of the season, the Seattle Cascades recorded just 12 turnovers, their lowest single-game total of the entire season. The team’s focused offense continued to shine this game with clean possessions that didn’t force throws and worked calmly into the endzone.
What’s next:
The Cascades will return home to host the Steel once more for their final regular season game of 2026 on Saturday, July 18th, at 5 PM. Up next after that is the 2026 Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) playoffs!
