Seattle Cascades 2025 Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) Schedule Breakdown

By Becca Weinberg, edited by Charles Hamaker

Seattle, WA - With the Seattle Cascades season beginning in just a few weeks, it’s time to break down the team’s 2025 schedule as the journey back to the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) Championship Weekend begins. Coming off one of their most successful seasons since 2016, with a second place finish in the West Division and making it all the way to the semifinals of last year’s UFA Championship Weekend, the Cascades are hungry to pick up right where they left off, and have a talented returning roster to do so.

Week 0: Seattle vs Oregon Northwest Cup

In a competitive showdown between both of Seattle and Oregon’s professional ultimate frisbee teams on March 8th, Seattle emerged victorious with a 27-16 overall win. With both women’s, men’s and mixed periods of play, Cascades players were featured in the last two periods, and many impact players set the tone early. Returning players Jack Brown, Tony Goss, and Spencer Lofink were able to help propel the team past their competition.  View the full recap here.

Week 1: BYE

Week 2: Seattle Cascades vs Oakland Spiders

The Cascades will open their regular season play with a home game against Oakland on May 3rd at Memorial Stadium. The Spiders are coming off a generally quiet offseason, with their focus on continuing to develop a strong group of dominant young players and seasoned veterans. With the departures of Jace Bruner’s quality defense and former captain Keenan Laurence’s average of 47 scores per season in his four years with the Spiders, there are definitely holes to fill in the team’s roster. However, Oakland’s run to the playoffs last season was supplied in part by the 336 average receiving yards per game of teenage phenom Raekwon Adkins, good for second in the entire league, as well as handler Evan Magsis’ 94.46% completion percentage. Both impact players will return to continue their on-field dominance, and this will be an important first matchup for the Cascades to gauge where they’re at as they face up against another 2025 playoff contender.

Week 3: Seattle Cascades at Oakland Spiders, Seattle Cascades at Vegas Bighorns

Seattle’s second week of games features two away games, with the first against the Spiders in Oakland on May 9th. Although it will be a different setting than under the lights at Memorial Stadium, the Cascades will look to build upon successes and address challenges from the previous week, as they prepare to face the Spiders twice in the span of one week.

The second matchup of Week 3 will be another away game against the Vegas Bighorns on May 10th. Vegas is the newest UFA expansion team, and enters the 2025 season with many unknowns. Their major offseason signing was six-year UFA veteran Joel Clutton, a 6’ 5'’ defender with substantial playoff experience who will bring his veteran leadership to the newly formed team. Joining Clutton as another offseason impact player will be longtime handler Stephen Poulos, with 10+ years of professional ultimate frisbee under his belt. The Cascades will face the newest UFA team early in the season and will not have much of a scouting report to work off of, but will be able to secure a win with confidence in running their systems and focusing on the talent of their own roster.

Week 4: Seattle Cascades at Oregon Steel

Seattle’s next matchup will come against Oregon Steel in Portland on May 17th. After already facing many of Steel’s players in the Northwest Cup in March, albeit with a condensed roster for both teams, the Cascades will look to build on their 8-7 win from that matchup. Similarly to the Bighorns, the Steel are coming off a team rebrand this season with significant roster turnover, and questions of where they will place in the league standings. A first look at their performance this season in the Northwest Cup showed the speedy handler movement of Dave Barram and deep looks from Ben Thoennes, which the Cascades will need to focus on locking down in order to stop the Steel offense. However, Steel was unable to stop the downfield cutting of Cascades cutters Jack Brown and Ashler Lantz, and the Cascades should look to capitalize on moving quickly up the field in order to take the W in this matchup once again.

Week 5: Seattle Cascades at Salt Lake Shred, Seattle Cascades at Oakland Spiders

The Cascades will continue their road trip in Salt Lake City, where they’ll face the Salt Lake Shred on May 23rd. With a first place finish in the West Division last season, Salt Lake advanced to the West Division Championship where they lost a tight game to the Cascades, 21-20. Although an impressive 2024 season appeared to set them up nicely for 2025, the Shred will have large holes to fill in their roster this season with the departure of many key players. All-time franchise leader in total yards Sean Connole, two-time UFA champion Grant Lindsley, and six-year veteran Elijah Jaime will not be competing for Shred this season to assist in another playoff push, and the team will have to rely on their full roster depth to carry them through to another playoff appearance. This is another team that has a lot of young players with high potential, and the Cascades will need to stop their fast-paced offense with lockdown defense in order to continue their previous success against this team.

On May 24th, the Cascades will face the Oakland Spiders for a third time this season back in Oakland. The team will once again look to learn from their previous two matchups against the Spiders, and build on previous successes.

Week 6: Seattle Cascades vs Salt Lake Shred

In another matchup against a recently-played team, the Cascades will face the Salt Lake Shred at home in Memorial Stadium on May 30th, just one week after their first game. The Cascades should use the home crowd to their advantage and continue building depth within their roster to prepare for a playoff push towards the end of the season.

Week 7: Seattle Cascades at Vegas Bighorns

The Cascades will continue their homestand against the Vegas Bighorns the following week on June 6th. With almost a month since their first matchup, there will likely be significant changes since the team’s initial meeting. The Cascades will look to build upon what they learned during their first matchup in Vegas.

Week 8: BYE

Week 9: Seattle Cascades vs Los Angeles Aviators

The Cascades will face the Aviators for the first time this season on June 21st. One notable detail about this matchup is although it’s a home game for the Cascades, they will be playing at Interbay Stadium instead of Memorial Stadium. All Cascades home games from this point forward will be played at Interbay as Memorial undergoes planned renovations.

The Aviators have had a rough past few seasons, finishing second to last in the West Division last year with a 3-9 record, and recording less than five wins in three of the past four seasons. They are also facing many losses to their roster this season, including the departures of downfield cutter Bryan Nguyen and impact handlers Brandon Van Duesen and Daniel Brunker. Without many incoming players to fill these holes, plus the factor of a division reshuffle that placed them in the South behind many powerhouse teams, the 2025 season leaves many question marks for the Aviators. They will need their current veteran core group to step up in big moments, with the likes of 10th-year cutter Sean McDougall continuing his quest for 500 scores and 11th-year defender Mitchell Steiner entering the season ranked 20th all time in blocks with 116. The Cascades will need to shut down the Aviators’ transition looks and utilize their downfield defenders to secure a win against the Aviators this season.

Week 10: Seattle Cascades vs Colorado Summit

Seattle will face another new opponent towards the end of the season with a home matchup against Colorado Summit on June 27th.

The Summit have a very strong core of dominant hybrid player Alex Atkins, cutter and 2024 College Rookie of the Year Tobias Brooks, cutters and scoring machines Noah Coolman and Quinn Finer, and four-time Oakland Spiders captain Keenan Laurence to combine quick handler movement with soaring deep looks. Since the Summit doesn’t have as strong of a defensive group, the Cascades will need to prioritize tight defense and capitalize on all offensive opportunities to keep a close score. Although Colorado finished in the middle of the West Division last season, they have the talent to make a playoff run, and the Cascades will look to contain Colorado's flashy playmaking and create immediate scoring chances off of turnovers to remain atop the West.

Week 11: BYE

Week 12: BYE

Week 13: Cascades at Colorado Summit, Cascades vs Oregon Steel

After two weeks off, the Cascades will face the Summit once again, this time in Colorado on July 18th. With the factor of altitude and matching up against the talented Colorado roster for the second time in less than a month, this will be a tougher matchup for the Cascades, but they will look to build upon their previous result against the Summit and continue utilizing their offensive systems effectively.

The final game of the 2025 regular season is a home game back in Seattle against Oregon Steel on July 19th. Having not played Oregon since Week 4, there will be much to learn from how each team has progressed since the middle of May. However, the hype of the Seattle vs Oregon Northwest rivalry will surely be present, and this game will likely have playoff implications for both teams if they have successful regular seasons. The Cascades will look to close out the season at home with a win against their rivals and position themselves nicely in a playoff spot.
